HIGH CLEARANCE DRAWBAR WITH REVISED THREE-POINT HITCH ASSEMBLY
John Deere Model "40" Utility Tractor

Figure 58AFigure 58A illustrates the new high clearance drawbar and three-point hitch assemblies which went into production on Model "40" Utility Tractors, Serial Number 62734 and up.

These revised assemblies are designed to provide additional crop clearance and permit installation of the power take-off attachment without removing the three-point hitch assembly.

Figure 58B Figure 58C

Figure 58B indicates the attaching points for the swinging drawbar attachment. An additional crop clearance of approximately 3-1/2 inches can be obtained by removing this attachment (Figure 58C).

Clearance is provided to permit installation and use of the power take-off attachment, without removing the three-point hitch assembly, by relocating the three-point hitch sway chains and sway chain anchors. The sway chains and anchors are now located on outer sides of draft links (Figure 59A). This change permits use of power take-off attachment and three-point hitch assembly and simultaneously or individually providing implement does not interfere with PTO attachment.

Operating Instructions for Three-Point Hitch Assembly on Model "40" Utility Tractors, Serial No. 62734 and Up.

Draft Links on Outer Trunnions. When the draft links are located on the outer trunnions as shown in Figure 59A the sway chains should be pinned to the top set of holes in the sway chain front anchors.

Draft Links on Inner Trunnions. When the draft links are located on the inner trunnions as shown in Figure 59A the sway chains should be pinned to the bottom set of holes in the sway chain front anchors.

Position of M2734T Draft Link Retaining Spring Without Implement on Tractors. The draft link retaining spring must be hooked across the draft links, as shown in Figure 59B, when integral implements are removed and the draft links are swinging free. This prevents draft links from swinging into the tires and causing damage.

Position of M2734T Draft Link Retaining Spring with Integral Implement on Tractor. The draft link retaining spring should be secured to the left lift link assembly as shown in Figure 58C whenever integral implements are attached to tractor.
